On November 28, exactly 15 days after the accident that caused the T6 bridge to break in half due to overloaded vehicles, Tri Ton district completed the construction and put in place a temporary bridge to ensure people's travel. The temporary bridge is about 5m away from the collapsed bridge due to overloaded vehicles, only allowing 2-wheeled vehicles to pass through, but basically meets the urgent travel needs of people because this is one of the main routes from the center of Tri Ton district to Vinh Phuoc commune and vice versa.
As Lao Dong reported earlier, at around 7:30 a.m. on November 13, 2024, Doan Duc Vinh (born in 1996, residing in Vinh Thanh district, Can Tho city) drove a truck with license plate 68C-112.10 transporting bricks for hire from Binh Duong province to Giang Thanh border gate (Kien Giang province) to deliver goods to Cambodia.
When reaching Vinh Phuoc commune, the vehicle passed through the T6 bridge when the middle span collapsed, causing the truck to fall into the T6 canal. At the time of the collapse of the T6 bridge span, only the truck was moving on the bridge. Upon checking the scene, the authorities determined that the cause of the collapse was due to the bridge being overloaded.
It is known that the T6 bridge has a permitted load of 5 tons. Meanwhile, the load capacity of the truck alone is 19 tons, carrying about 30 tons of bricks.
Attending the temporary bridge opening ceremony, Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the Tri Ton District People's Council, Cao Quang Liem, expressed his gratitude to the temporary bridge construction charity group for taking advantage of the time to complete the temporary bridge opening early.
At the same time, he directed the Vinh Phuoc commune authorities to quickly install lights at night, repaint the bridge, and add railings and signs to ensure safe traffic. On this occasion, Mr. Liem also came to inspect the construction progress of the new bridge that officially replaces the T6 bridge. It is known that the new bridge project has a construction value of 1.35 billion VND from socialized sources.
