On November 30, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province announced that the test results of samples did not meet food safety regulations. In particular, the test samples of boiled pork; pork pate; pork sausage; raw vegetables (green onions, cilantro); pork sauce at the banh mi - xoi shop Co Ba Ben Dinh (6 Nguyen An Ninh, Ward 7, Vung Tau City) - the banh mi shop suspected of causing food poisoning to hundreds of people - all failed to meet the standards of the Ministry of Health.
All samples were found to contain Salmonella bacteria, which can cause gastrointestinal illness in humans and animals.
Doctor Pham Thi Thu Hien - Head of Vung Tau City Health Department - explained that the Escheriachia coli and Staphylococcus aueus with the index in the notice board are at undetectable or normal levels (9.0x104 CFU/g in raw vegetables). Only Salmonella has an impact, creating symptoms of food poisoning.
Previously, since November 27, there have been many cases of hospitalization for food poisoning symptoms, suspected to be caused by eating banh mi from this shop. Therefore, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province took food samples from the Co Ba Ben Dinh banh mi shop for testing and sent the samples to Ho Chi Minh City for examination.
Statistics from November 27 to 29 show that 379 cases of food poisoning were treated at three medical facilities, including Vung Tau Hospital, Ba Ria Hospital and Vietsovpetro Medical Center; including six severe cases and one death.
