Dong Nai Hydropower Plant proactively regulates water, cuts flood for downstream

Lam Dong - Dong Nai Hydropower Company operates Dong Nai 3 and Dong Nai 4 reservoirs according to the correct procedures, promptly creating flood prevention capacity, reducing downstream pressure.

According to records from monitoring stations in the basin, the average rainfall from November 17 to 21 reached 101.3mm.

Some areas had high rainfall, such as Da Lat on November 17 reached 111.4mm; Lac Duong station on November 19 reached 132.4mm; Suoi Vang recorded 68.4mm.

In response to bad weather, at 3:00 p.m. on November 14, Dong Nai Hydropower Company proactively released regulators for the second time in 2025 (according to Notice No. 1181/TB-TDNN), in order to lower the lake's water level and create flood prevention capacity.

At 3:00 a.m. on November 17, the water level of Dong Nai 3 Lake reached 589.79 m (near the normal increase of 590 m), the water flow was 219 m3/s. The company operates a discharge through the plant of 174.6m3/s and a overflow discharge of 37m3/s.

Dong Nai 4 Lake is a day-to-day lake, so the discharge and generation of electricity corresponds to the total discharge from Dong Nai 3 Lake.

Implementing the requirements in document 6404/SNNMT-TLTNN dated November 17 of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong, the Company continues to gradually increase the discharge flow to lower the water level of Dong Nai 3 Lake, preparing to respond when heavy rain reaches its peak.

During the rain period from November 17 to 21, the water flow to the lake increased dramatically, peaking at more than 2,000m3/s from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on November 20 (highest at 2,183m3/s at 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the same day).

However, the Company only maintains the largest discharge level of 1,776m3/s (according to Notice No. 1120/TB-TDN dated November 20), significantly lower than the water flow to the lake, thereby contributing to reducing floods downstream.

From 2:00 a.m. on November 21, the discharge flow began to decrease to 1,447 m3/s; by 7:00 a.m. it was 1,337 m3/s and by 9:00 a.m. it was only 650 m3/s. Currently, the discharge flow continues to decrease according to actual developments.

The regulatory operation work is carried out in accordance with the procedures of the State management agency, ensuring the safety of the project and the downstream area. The company has continuously coordinated and exchanged information with the Lam Dong Provincial Civil Defense Command, local authorities and related units, ensuring timely warnings to the people.

Dong Nai Hydropower Company said it will continue to closely monitor the weather and water flow to the reservoir to proactively adjust the operating plan appropriately, safely and effectively.
