The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just issued a telegram on opening the bottom spillway of Tuyen Quang hydroelectric reservoir. Accordingly, at 1:00 p.m. on October 9, the upstream water level of Tuyen Quang Lake was at 119.61m, the downstream water level was 52.30m, the flow to the lake was 2,283m3/s, the total downstream flow was 1,835m3/s.
Implementing the Inter-reservoir operation process in the Red River basin, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment ordered the Director of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Company to continue opening 1 bottom spillway gate of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Reservoir at 7:00 p.m. on October 9, 2025.
Closely monitor the developments of floods, construction safety, flow to the reservoir, water levels upstream and downstream of the reservoir and promptly report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (through the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control) and relevant agencies according to regulations.
Previously, on the morning of October 9, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment also ordered Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant to open 1 bottom spillway gate at 1:00 p.m. on October 9.
During the recent flood caused by the circulation of storm No. 10, on September 30, 2025 alone, the water flow to Tuyen Quang hydroelectric reservoir reached 6,985 m3/s, the discharge flow was 5,060 m3/s. Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant has cut 1,925 m3/s, equivalent to 6.93 million m3 of water.
As of September 30 alone, the total flood cutting capacity for downstream of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant reached 76.49 million m3. This contributes to lowering the flood peak, slowing down the flood process, reducing the risk of flooding and ensuring safety for downstream areas.
