Born and raised in the countryside of Ha Tinh, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duy Hoang (born in 1995) - captain of ship BP 28.19.02, Squadron 2 (Border Guard Squadron 28) - has been with the unit for more than 5 years.
Ship BP 28.19.02 - one of the most modern ships of the 28th Coast Guard Squadron - requires a lot of experience to operate. His and his teammates' trips to sea for missions usually last no less than 3 months.
Hoang shared that many long sea trips have erratic weather and big waves. The common difficulty that the Navy soldiers encounter when drifting at sea is the lack of necessities such as fresh vegetables, fresh water and some necessary items.
The sea area that Squadron 2 is in charge of is a key area, where illegal mineral exploitation activities are complicated. Lieutenant Nguyen Duy Hoang and the crew directly participate in, coordinate with the units' teams and groups to patrol and control, promptly detect and handle many violations of illegal mineral exploitation and transportation, illegal oil trading, etc. In addition, the force also propagates and mobilizes people to participate in protecting sovereignty and security of the maritime border, actively reporting to the Border Guard force.
Mr. Hoang confided that 5 years of studying at school helped him gain basic knowledge, and when he went to work, it was from practical experience that he accumulated. To do well as a captain, Mr. Hoang always took the initiative to build plans and prepare well. As the person with the highest responsibility on the ship, on each trip, he always maintained good regulations, ensuring the safety of officers, soldiers as well as the unit's equipment.
Hoang added: “The ship is equipped with many modern machines and weapons that were unknown to students. Therefore, when receiving the ship, the officers and technical staff on board tried to study the documents carefully. Combining the basic knowledge learned and practical work experience, in a short time, we were able to master the ship's technical equipment and were ready to carry out the mission.”
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Nghiem - Deputy Political Commissar of Border Guard Squadron 28 - commented that with his constant efforts in studying, competing, and working, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duy Hoang is a typical factor, highly appreciated by the unit.
“Comrade Hoang has applied the knowledge he has learned well to his work with high efficiency. In addition to the expertise in controlling the train to the destination requested by the commander, he has also studied more legal knowledge to grasp the task, command and direct the control teams to perform well the functions and tasks of patrol and control,” Lieutenant Colonel Nghiem added.
While drifting at sea, Hoang has a familiar reading corner in the ship's hold. "After finishing my duties, I also relax by reading books. It helps me reduce my homesickness, my wife and children, and also helps me gain more knowledge and accumulate knowledge when I leave the cockpit," Hoang confided.
“When the weather is good, prepare for bad weather”, this is a saying that Hoang likes to keep in mind when going on long sea trips. Always focusing on work, not being subjective and negligent even with favorable conditions, this is what helps him overcome challenges and difficult obstacles to complete his tasks well.
In 2023, he was awarded a certificate of merit by the Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in arresting ships illegally transporting oil at sea. He also won first prize in the Competition for Excellent Squadron Captains and Captains organized by the 28th Border Guard Squadron; 2024 Basic Emulation Fighter; and 2024 Party Member with Excellent Mission Achievements.
