On May 29, information from the People's Committee of Tan Thanh commune said that the sinkhole was discovered on the same morning in Tan Tien hamlet. The hole is more than 2m wide and about 6m deep, appearing close to National Highway 2C.
Local authorities have stretched ropes to block off the scene, warning people not to get near the dangerous area. At the same time, report to superiors to find the cause and take remedial measures.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Toan, Tan Tien village (Tan Thanh commune) said that the hole was initially discovered to be only about 40cm wide, then it gradually collapsed and spread.
"The unusual sinkhole near the residential area makes people in the area very confused. Hopefully the government will soon find the cause and take remedial measures," said Mr. Toan.
Initial assessment by the authorities, the phenomenon of subsidence holes may be due to complex geological factors in the area. Especially underground erosion of water networks or the activity of breaking the structure of soil and rock after a long period of rain.

Uncontrolled well drilling and groundwater exploitation activities are also considered factors that can contribute to underground instability.
Previously, a sinkhole also appeared in Lam Binh district, located next to the provincial road DT188, in Phuc Son commune. The sinkhole is about 1m wide, the depth of the hole is not yet determined.
Authorities have placed warning signs, continue to monitor, investigate the cause and deploy handling plans.
In Bac Kan, since the end of March 2025, 7 sinkholes have appeared in Kim Lu commune (Na Ri). On the night of May 26, a young man driving a motorbike suddenly plunged into a sinkhole. After many days of rescue, the missing victim has not been found.
