On October 22, Linh Huynh Border Guard Station (Kien Giang Province Border Guard) said that the unit has supported the search for victims in the case of disappearance at sea.
At around 3:10 p.m. on October 21, Linh Huynh Border Guard Station received a report from the public that a fisherman had gone missing in the sea area of Tho Son Commune (Hon Dat District, Kien Giang Province). Initial information indicated that the missing person was L.T.L (born in 2010, permanent resident of Tho Son Commune, Hon Dat District) who went to sea with his father, Le Van Lap. It is predicted that L.T.L may have fallen into the sea while fishing. After receiving the report, the unit sent forces to the area where the incident occurred to verify and clarify.
Previously, at around 12:00 on October 21, Mr. Le Van Lap (born in 1978, permanent resident of Tho Son commune, Hon Dat district, Kien Giang) drove a dinghy about 8m long, with 3 people on board including Mr. Lap and 2 people, his son and son-in-law.
All three went from the seaport of Van Thanh hamlet, Tho Son commune, Hon Dat district to the sea to exploit aquatic products. While moving, Mr. Nguyen Huu Nghia (born in 1993, son-in-law) sat at the front of the vehicle, L.T.L (son) sat behind Mr. Lap.
At around 12:30, at the sea area of Tho Son commune, about 1 nautical mile from shore, Mr. Lap discovered that L was not on the vehicle so he turned back to search. After about 1 hour of searching and not finding L, Mr. Lap called his family to ask local vehicles and relatives to go to the above sea area to support the search and reported to Linh Huynh Border Guard Station and Tho Son Commune People's Committee.
Lieutenant Colonel Bui Khac Duong - Head of Linh Huynh Border Guard Station - said that immediately after receiving the news from the people, the unit sent forces to the area where the incident occurred to verify and clarify. At 4:50 p.m. on October 21, the unit continued to send a working group of 5 comrades to the area to preside over and coordinate with the Commune Police and the Tho Son Commune Military Command to mobilize 5 vehicles to search for the missing person. However, due to the dark and shallow sea conditions, the stranded vehicles could not move, so at 8:30 p.m. the same day, the search was suspended.
At 7:00 a.m. on October 22, the unit's working group went to the area to preside over and coordinate with local authorities and people to mobilize 8 vehicles in Van Thanh hamlet to continue the search. At 9:45 a.m., in the sea area of Hon Dat hamlet, Tho Son commune, the working group discovered L in the water, dead. After that, the working group coordinated with Tho Son commune police to make an initial report and brought the body ashore to hand over to the family.
