Recorded on the afternoon of July 3, vehicles traveling through the HC1 underpass were quite smooth, mainly in the direction from Thu Thiem to Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue. However, at the intersection between Dong Van Cong and Mai Chi Tho streets towards An Phu intersection, congestion still occurs due to a large number of container trucks arriving from Cat Lai port during rush hour.
The entire length of the HC1-01 tunnel is 455 m, 20 m wide, including 4 car lanes. The tunnel is divided into 19 sections, including 4 closed sections 80 m long and 15 open sections 375 m long. Technical items such as lighting, lane division lines, signs, railings... have been completed, ensuring traffic safety.
According to Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, putting the tunnel into operation in the middle of the year is "the right time", contributing to reducing the load on the area considered the largest traffic congestion in the East of the city. The operation of the tunnel will reduce conflicts between directions, support traffic flow and facilitate the implementation of the remaining items of the project.
Driver Quoc Tuan (District 7) shared: Previously, every time I crossed An Phu button during rush hour, I was determined to have heavy traffic jams, especially the section from Dong Van Cong to Mai Chi Tho roundabout. Now that there is a tunnel going straight, it will be much more convenient".
The HC1 underpass project is one of the key items of the An Phu intersection project - a traffic project with a scale of more than VND 3,400 billion, connecting major axes such as Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, Mai Chi Tho Avenue, Dong Van Cong and Nguyen Thi Dinh.
In addition to HC1-01, there is also the HC2 underpass under construction, which will help connect directly from the Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Mai Chi Tho Avenue. When completed, the tunnel system will allow cars to move continuously from Thu Thiem tunnel to the expressway without having to stop at intersections.
The An Phu intersection project has a total investment of VND3,400 billion, including three floors of traffic (underpass, ground surface and overpass), expected to be completed this year to contribute to reducing congestion and increasing traffic capacity for the eastern gateway area of the city.
