On July 3, information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province said that from May 28 to now, African swine fever (DTLCP) has broken out in 21 villages in 6 communes: Kim Phu, Tan Thanh, Phong Nha, Quang Trach, Tan Gianh and Dong Le. The total number of pigs forced to be destroyed was 451, with a weight of nearly 28 tons.
Notably, Phong Nha commune is a hot spot for the epidemic, when the epidemic occurred in 37 livestock households, in 9 villages. Currently, all localities with the epidemic have not passed the 21-day deadline, with the risk of continuing to spread strongly to neighboring areas.
Mr. Tran Cong Tam - Head of the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine said that immediately after discovering the disease, the veterinary force coordinated with local authorities to announce the epidemic and simultaneously deploy control measures. Epidemics and high-risk areas are sprayed with disinfectants, and people are required not to self-treat, not to sell sick and dead pigs, and to seriously implement epidemic prevention and control measures in small-scale livestock households.
Currently, the work of monitoring and controlling the transportation of animals and animal products in and out of the epidemic area is being tightened. The provincial veterinary industry recommends that livestock farmers regularly update information about the epidemic, proactively report promptly when detecting pigs with unusual signs, strictly follow the procedures for cleaning and disinfecting barns to contribute to controlling and extinguishing the outbreak soon.
