The progress of the Ring Road 3 project through Ho Chi Minh City has just been reported by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board (Traffic Board - investor) to the Vietnam Expressway Administration.
Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 is a strategic traffic route passing through Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An.
Phase 1 of the project has a total length of 76.3 km, including a highway with 4 lanes and parallel routes on both sides.
The total investment of the entire project is up to nearly VND 75,400 billion, divided into 8 component projects directly implemented by each locality.
The section passing through Ho Chi Minh City alone is over 47 km long, with a total investment of about VND 41,387 billion. Of which, the cost of compensation and site clearance accounts for nearly VND19,000 billion. The project started construction in June 2023.

According to the Traffic Department, up to now, the total construction output of the route has reached nearly 41% of the volume.
In particular, with the adjustment, review and resetting the detailed construction progress, the project completion plan has been shortened by about 6 months compared to the original plan.
By December 31, 2025, 14.7 km of overpasses in Thu Duc City will be completed and opened to traffic and 32.6 km of expressways in Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh will be technically opened to traffic.
By June 30, 2026, the entire section of Ring Road 3 passing through Ho Chi Minh City (47.5 km long) will officially open to traffic.
One of the biggest challenges at present is the lack of sand for embankment, especially in the sections passing through Cu Chi, Hoc Mon and Binh Chanh.
To solve this problem, Ho Chi Minh City has established a Materials Working Group, proactively working with the Western provinces such as Vinh Long, Tien Giang, Ben Tre to supplement sand mines or increase exploitation capacity from existing mines.
At the same time, the city also directed the Traffic Department to closely coordinate with contractors to seek alternative supply sources, ensuring no interruption in construction progress.

According to Mr. Le Ngoc Hung - Deputy Director of the Traffic Department, technical solutions such as vacuum clearing spans, CDM (cement - soil columns), increasing clearing density and shortening loading time are also being applied to speed up the treatment of weak soil.
At the same time, the investor has requested all contractors to organize continuous construction in 3 shifts and 4 teams to make the most of the time and speed up the finish line.
After completion, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 will form a strategic connection ring between 5 major expressways including: Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay, Ben Luc - Long Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai and Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh.
Thereby, forming a complete transport network, enhancing the connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and provinces in the key economic region of the South.
Not only contributing to reducing the pressure of inner-city traffic, Ring Road 3 also helps shorten the time of goods transportation, save logistics costs, promote the development of industrial parks, satellite cities and seaport systems.
