Ho Chi Minh City - The An Phu intersection project with a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND continues to be extended, postponing the completion time to the third quarter of 2027.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued an official dispatch agreeing with the proposal of the Department of Construction on adjusting the implementation time of the An Phu traffic intersection construction project to the third quarter of 2027.

The adjustment is only related to the project implementation progress, and does not change the investment objectives, scale, construction location, total investment, or capital sources of the project.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to be responsible for inspecting, supervising, and evaluating investment; and continue to monitor the implementation of Plan No. 297/KH-UBND on compensation, site clearance, and post-adjustment progress.

At the same time, the Department of Construction must promptly report and advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to remove arising difficulties and obstacles, ensuring sufficient conditions to complete the project according to the new time milestone.

This is the second time the An Phu intersection project has had its schedule adjusted.

According to Resolution No. 11/NQ-HĐND dated April 22, 2021 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, the An Phu intersection project must be completed before December 31, 2025.

However, due to not being able to reach the finish line on time, at the beginning of 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee adjusted the project implementation time to the second quarter of 2026. However, this progress milestone continued to not be achieved.

The An Phu intersection project was started at the end of 2022 with a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND. The project is designed according to a three-story intersection model, including a system of underpasses, overpasses and central roundabouts.

The project aims to solve traffic congestion at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, especially the area connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, Mai Chi Tho Avenue, Dong Van Cong Street and Luong Dinh Cua Street.

Currently, some items of the An Phu intersection project have been put into operation, including: HC1-01 underpass at the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection; HC1-02 underpass connecting the expressway with Mai Chi Tho Avenue; branch of bridge N2 connecting from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to Mai Chi Tho Avenue; branch of overpass N3 from Mai Chi Tho Avenue turning left into Dong Van Cong street.

According to the plan, the N4 bridge branch serving traffic from Giong Ong To bridge turning right into Mai Chi Tho avenue will be completed and put into operation at the end of July 2026.

Next, two bridge branches N1.1 and N1.3 - allowing vehicles from Mai Chi Tho Avenue to turn left into the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway access road are expected to be opened to traffic at the end of September 2026.

As for the N1.2 bridge branch, connecting from Luong Dinh Cua street straight to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway access road, construction is still temporarily suspended due to lack of site clearance. This item depends on the completion of site clearance of about 22,012m2 of land belonging to An Phu Development Urban Area.

To remove this bottleneck, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a plan to implement compensation, support and resettlement for the above-mentioned area of 22,012m2, setting a goal to complete the handover of the entire site before November 30, 2020.
