On June 1, 2026, the high-speed train line connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao officially reopened at Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Port in Xom Chieu ward, Ho Chi Minh City. According to the plan, the direction from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, departing at 6:30 am. The return direction from Con Dao to Ho Chi Minh City operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing at 12:00 pm.
Sharing about the fact that this waterway route was temporarily suspended from September 2025, Mr. Nguyen Van Dang, Director of Thanh Thanh Phat Company, said that this is a necessary time for businesses to invest in new vehicles. Compared to previous generation ships, Phu Quy Express 02 ship is designed with three modern bodies to help with better load-bearing capacity, reduce shaking and effectively prevent seasickness. Thanks to improved speed, the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao has been shortened from six hours to only about 5 hours and 15 minutes.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mai Trung Hung - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction assessed that Con Dao has great historical and cultural value and eco-tourism exploitation. Currently, transportation connecting to Con Dao depends heavily on air transport, but in the past, air travel has encountered some difficulties. Notably, the project to upgrade Con Dao airport with a 3.8 km long runway is being implemented. In that context, restoring the capacity of the waterway transport route plays an essential role in removing traffic bottlenecks.
Assessing the interruption time of the transport route in the past six months, Mr. Hung said that this is necessary for the investor to upgrade vehicles to meet stricter requirements on capacity and service quality.

Ms. Vo Thi Kim Tuyen, residing in Ban Co ward, Ho Chi Minh City, shared that she had traveled to Con Dao by both plane and boat. Ms. Tuyen said that although traveling by air is very convenient, she still prioritizes taking the train to be able to fully admire the sea and islands and rivers. Ms. Tuyen also said that she planned to go to Con Dao from March, but decided to wait for the new train route to operate to book tickets for experience.
