On April 12, Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board - said that the first package of the two sections of Ring Road 2 through Thu Duc City, which is to clear blast mines, will start construction on April 19, 2025.
The main construction packages are expected to be implemented from September 30, 2025.
The entire project will be completed and put into operation in 2027, helping to reduce congestion, open more space for urban development in the East, and connect Cat Lai, Phu Huu, Truong Tho port clusters...
The two sections of Ring Road 2 passing through Thu Duc City have a total capital of nearly VND14,000 billion, approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2023 with budget capital.
Section 1, 3.5km long, from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Street (formerly Hanoi Highway) has a total investment of about VND9,328 billion.
Section 2, 2.8km long, from Vo Nguyen Giap Street to Pham Van Dong Street, has a total investment of about VND 4,543 billion.
Both sections were cleared from the beginning, 67m wide, then parallel roads were built on both sides with 6 lanes (each road is 17m wide, with a scale of 3 lanes). The vacant land in the middle of the route will be reserved for future road expansion.

To implement these two sections of Ring Road 2, Thu Duc City reclaimed about 61.15 hectares of land, affecting 1,166 households. The total estimated cost of compensation and support is about 7,600 billion VND.
Currently, Thu Duc City is urgently paying compensation, in order to soon reclaim the site and hand it over to the investor for implementation on schedule.
To date, Ho Chi Minh City has completed about 50km of the total length of more than 64km of Ring Road 2.
In addition to the two sections that are about to start construction, this route still has two sections that have not been closed.
Section 3 from Pham Van Dong Street to Go Dua intersection (Thu Duc City), 2.7km long, has been implemented since 2017, but is still unfinished.
The project is invested in the form of BT (build - transfer) with a total capital of more than VND 2,700 billion, including site clearance costs.
Difficulties in land fund payment procedures for investors and slow compensation and clearance have caused the project to stop from March 2020 to present, when it reached nearly half of the volume.
Section 4, 5.3km long, located in the south of the city, connecting from National Highway 1 to Nguyen Van Linh Street, has not yet been submitted to the competent authority for investment approval.
