The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just submitted a report to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council agreeing in principle to assign the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee as the managing agency to implement the Rach Doi bridge construction project, a project located in Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh province.
The project will be considered and approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council at the 5th session of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council (specialized session), taking place on September 21-22.

According to the proposal, Rach Doi bridge will be newly built to replace the existing iron bridge, which was built before 1975 and is currently degraded.
The total length of Rach Doi bridge and the approach road is about 3.3km, the design speed is 80km/h. The starting point of the project is on Le Van Luong road (old Huong Lo 34), belonging to Hiep Phuoc commune, about 175m from the center of Rach Tom bridge towards Can Giuoc.
The ending point is on Provincial Road 826C (old Huong Lo 34), belonging to Can Giuoc commune, Tay Ninh province.
The project is expected to use about 14.6ha of land, of which the area to be compensated is about 9.4ha, and the remaining about 5.2ha is the area of rivers and existing roads.
Preliminary total investment is estimated at about 3,197 billion VND, using Ho Chi Minh City's budget capital.

According to the plan, the Rach Doi bridge project will be implemented in the period 2026 - 2029. In 2026, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to approve the investment policy, architectural design competition, survey and prepare a feasibility study report.
By 2027, the project is expected to be approved for investment, complete design - estimate, site clearance, contractor selection and commencement. The project is expected to start construction from the fourth quarter of 2027, complete, accept and put into use in 2029.
Rach Doi bridge is invested to replace existing weak bridges, increasing the ability to connect road traffic between Hiep Phuoc commune, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Giuoc commune, Tay Ninh province.
The project also aims to improve the operation capacity of the Le Van Luong route, meeting the increasing travel and transportation needs and contributing to reducing congestion and traffic accidents at the southern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the project also plays a role in connecting the eastern and southeastern areas of Tay Ninh province with Ho Chi Minh City, creating conditions for socio-economic development, tourism and increasing the exploitation capacity of the port system on the Soai Rap River.
The construction of Rach Doi bridge is also expected to contribute to completing the road transport network between Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh, and at the same time upgrading the waterway transport route from the Can Giuoc River to the area of international seaports on the Soai Rap River.

Previously, the Le Van Luong route had 4 iron bridges built before 1975, including Rach Dia, Long Kieng, Rach Tom and Rach Doi bridges.
To date, Long Kieng bridge and Rach Dia bridge have been rebuilt and put into operation in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
Meanwhile, the new Rach Tom bridge is being built with a total investment of nearly 497 billion VND, expected to be completed in 2027.
Along with building new bridges, Ho Chi Minh City is studying a project to upgrade and expand Le Van Luong road, about 8.6km long, with 8 lanes and a cross-section of 40m.
This project has a total estimated investment of more than 11,000 billion VND, using Ho Chi Minh City's budget capital, implemented in the period 2026 - 2030.
