Binh Tien Bridge and Road is one of the 5 key projects to upgrade and expand existing roads under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form, implemented by Ho Chi Minh City thanks to the special mechanism from Resolution 98.
However, unlike the other four projects (National Highway 1, National Highway 13, National Highway 22 and the North-South axis road) that have been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for investment policy, this project is still in the process of completing documents to submit to competent authorities for approval.

According to the proposed plan, the entire route will be built on high ground with overpasses with a road surface of 30-40 m wide, meeting 4-6 lanes.
The project will start from the Binh Tien - Pham Van Chi intersection (District 6), cross Vo Van Kiet Avenue, Tau Hu Canal, Cay Sung Street (District 8), Doi Canal, Ta Quang Buu Street, before connecting to Nguyen Van Linh Avenue (Binh Chanh District).
The elevated route will have branches connecting to Vo Van Kiet, Binh Dong, Hoai Thanh, Ta Quang Buu and Nguyen Van Linh streets, helping traffic connect with existing routes.

Initially, the project was implemented under the BOT form, but during the preparation of the pre-feasibility study report, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport proposed to switch to public investment.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has assigned the Department of Transport to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to prepare a pre-feasibility study dossier, submit to competent authorities for approval of the investment policy in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Public Investment and other relevant legal provisions.
At the same time, the Department of Transport also advised the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to adjust the decision to assign tasks to prepare for project investment under the previous BOT form.
The Department of Finance will be responsible for assessing the legality and guiding relevant units to carry out further investment procedures.
Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is expected to be the investor.
The districts where the project passes through (District 6, District 8, Binh Chanh) will be in charge of compensation and site clearance.
The Binh Tien Bridge and Road project needs to reclaim 21.27 hectares of land, including 1.55 hectares in District 6; 6.9 hectares in District 8 and 12.82 hectares in Binh Chanh District.
A total of 398 households were affected, of which 189 households were partially cleared and 200 households were completely cleared.

Currently, people from District 8 to the center of Ho Chi Minh City often go through Duong Ba Trac Street, Kenh Xang Bridge, Nguyen Van Cu Bridge and Chu Y Bridge. However, these routes are often overloaded, causing serious congestion.
When completed, Binh Tien Bridge and Road will create a new road axis from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Nguyen Van Linh Avenue, thereby conveniently connecting with National Highway 50, National Highway 1, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway and Ring Road 3.
The project not only helps reduce traffic pressure in the central area, but also promotes regional connectivity, especially with the Western provinces.
