Theft in boarding houses
Continuously over the past month, Buon Ma Thuot City Police, Dak Lak Province have investigated and successfully arrested a series of subjects who specialize in breaking into student dormitories. For example, the case of Tran Minh Hung (38 years old), residing in Ea Tam Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City, is a drug addict, unemployed, so he steals property to sell for money to spend. To avoid detection, Hung often wears a hooded sweatshirt and walks on the streets late at night. Then, Hung targets student dormitories to steal property. Using the above tricks, from September to October 2024, Hung broke into student dormitories 4 times in Ea Tam Ward to steal 3 motorbikes and 2 mobile phones.
Also using the method of monitoring activities in student dormitories, Nguyen Nhat Minh (23 years old) and Tran Quang Tien (19 years old), both residing in Ea H’leo district (Dak Lak), broke in and stole property. It is worth mentioning that Minh and Tien are also drug addicts.
To commit the theft, the subjects bought a lock-breaking tool and necessary tools. In the early morning of September 18, the two went to a boarding house in Tan Tien Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City and stole a motorbike to sell, to get money to buy drugs for use.
Through practical research, it is shown that property thieves are increasingly daring, reckless and operate with prior preparation.
After extracting images from the security camera, it was shown that Tien and Minh entered the boarding house as if there was no one there. They calmly broke the lock and quickly took the motorbike away, in just a split second.
Proactively prevent property theft
According to the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City, to enhance security and order in the area, the locality has recently installed over 100 cameras in many important areas in the area. Among these, some facial recognition cameras will be installed to monitor security and order.
Through evaluation, after installation, many cases of robbery and theft by subjects were handled by authorities according to regulations thanks to the above camera system.
Dak Lak province has many universities, colleges, secondary schools, vocational schools... with tens of thousands of students. This is a group of people who still need economic support from their families and face many financial difficulties when renting a place to live.
Nguyen Thi Mai (a student at Tay Nguyen University) shared: “Right after hearing about many thefts in student dormitories, I went to buy new locks to replace the doors for more security. I also installed anti-theft warning speakers on my motorbikes to ensure that thieves cannot easily steal my property.”
According to Ms. Le Thi Nguyet (owner of a boarding house in Buon Ma Thuot City), "I have invested in installing additional security cameras around the boarding house. At the same time, I also require guests to return before 10pm or else the door will be locked to ensure safety and prevent theft."
