On the afternoon of October 21, a clip posted on social media recorded an extremely dangerous traffic situation that occurred in Hanoi.
According to the person who posted the clip, on the afternoon of October 21, when it was raining in Hanoi, a pedestrian suddenly ran across the street near the entrance to the elevated Ring Road 2 (from Minh Khai to Nga Tu So). At that time, a truck going straight had to turn right to avoid the pedestrian.
After the steering wheel was turned, the car turned sideways and the front of the car crashed into the median strip. Fortunately, there was no serious collision.
Under the post, many people expressed outrage at the pedestrian's actions.
"I don't understand what he was thinking when he suddenly ran across the street like that," commented account Tong Khanh Cuong.
People living near the area said that such situations happen "like daily meals".
"There are incidents like this every day. There is no crosswalk on this section but people still cross. There are many cars, driving at high speed," shared account Hung Nguyen.
In fact, according to a survey by Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Ring Road 2 - the section from Minh Khai to Nga Tu So is lacking dedicated pedestrian walkways, such as pedestrian bridges or underpasses (there is only one underpass at Nga Tu So intersection, put into use since 2007).
This route has now been expanded, has a very high traffic density, high speed, pedestrians who want to cross the street must move to intersections with traffic lights.
However, because the crossing points are far apart, people risk their lives by crossing the street at locations without markings, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents.
"I have witnessed about 4-5 cases of vehicles hitting pedestrians crossing the street at places without zebra crossings," said Nguyen Thi Tiep (Hai Ba Trung district).
Seeing the inconvenience every time crossing the street, the high risk of accidents, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy (Hai Ba Trung district) said that it is necessary to quickly survey and invest in constructions dedicated to pedestrians crossing the street on this route.
In order to meet the travel needs of the people, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board has just reported to the Hanoi Department of Transport to propose the Hanoi People's Committee to invest in building 29 pedestrian overpasses in densely populated areas and schools in the city.
Among the proposed locations, there are two locations on Minh Khai Street (Hai Ba Trung District) including Hoa Binh 7 alley and the entrance to Times City urban area...
