On December 11, Mr. Truong Quang Trung - Director of Nam Quang Tri Specialized Forest Management Board said that the unit is implementing solutions to handle the situation of overlapping and encroachment on forests and forestry land on an area of over 2,000 hectares.
To handle the above situation, the Nam Quang Tri Special-use Forest Management Board has coordinated with the People's Committee of Ba Long commune (Quang Tri province) to organize a Forest Protection Propaganda Contest and propose solutions to handle the situation of overlapping and encroachment on forests and forestry land.
The special feature of the contest is that the teams mainly come from villages and forest protection contracted forces in core areas under the management of the Nam Quang Tri Special Forests Management Board.
With the theme "Understanding and acting correctly - Maintaining green", the teams demonstrated knowledge of forestry law, creative ideas in forest management, protection and biodiversity conservation. The competitions for propaganda arts, knowledge competitions and audience competitions are organized flexibly, closely following the provisions of the 2017 Forestry Law, Plan 728/PA-UBND dated February 28, 2025 and Directive 06/CT-UBND dated November 25, 2025 of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province on handling overlapping and encroachment on forestry land.
The judging results showed that the teams were all well prepared, accurately reflecting the local forest protection management situation.
The contest recorded many positive results such as raising public awareness of forest destruction prevention, forest encroachment, wildlife hunting; creating a forum for exchanging experiences between the government and people on handling overlapping forestry land; strengthening solidarity and coordination between forest protection forces.
The Nam Quang Tri Special Forests Management Board assessed the contest as a model, capable of being replicated in the communes of the buffer zone.
"The unit will continue to coordinate with localities to innovate propaganda methods, synchronously deploy solutions to handle encroachment on forests and forestry land, towards the goal of protecting and developing sustainable forests in the entire forestry area" - Mr. Truong Quang Trung said.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper had many articles and information about the whole province having more than 841,000 hectares of forestry land, of which more than 780,000 hectares are forest areas. However, the situation of illegal encroachment on forest land and forestry land is still complicated in many localities, mainly in remote areas. Statistics show that the whole province has more than 14,600 hectares of forest and forestry land encroached.
Faced with this situation, the Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that the People's Committees of communes review the entire encroached forest area, prepare specific records, determine the time and subjects of violation for handling according to regulations. Enhance forest owner responsibility, regularly inspect, detect early, prevent deforestation, encroachment on forest land, and reclaim encroached areas. Strengthen propaganda of laws on forest protection and development, helping people clearly understand their rights and obligations, not depending on livelihoods from exploitation and encroachment on forests.
