According to Lao Dong on Tran Xuan Soan Street (Tan Thuan Ward), water from Te Canal started to rise at around 4pm, then overflowed onto the road. At around 4:30 p.m., the section under Tan Thuan Bridge was deeply flooded.
Some locations were flooded with water more than half a wheel on motorbikes, causing people to move slowly, many vehicles stalled and had to be pushed on foot.
Mr. Le Van Hoa, a member of the security force of Tan Thuan ward, said that the authorities were on duty early to regulate traffic and support the people.
"Since 3pm, we have been here, standing at checkpoints at both ends of the road to guide people to avoid going into deeply flooded areas. When the vehicle broke down, the brothers helped push it to a dry area to restart it. Many vehicles stalled due to water overflow," said Mr. Hoa.
Not only traffic, but the daily life and business of people along the route are also seriously affected.
Mr. Tran Thanh Nha, an employee of a hair salon on Tran Xuan Soan Street, said that in previous high tides, the water was only slightly flooded and they could still go. But today the water level rose, and the salon he worked at also became deserted.
Having lived in the area for many years, Mr. Chi Thuc said that the high tide this year is significantly higher than previous years.
"Every year, the water only reaches the edge of the road, but this year it floods straight into the house. My family had to close the door, block the water, and put up their belongings. It was flooded at night, but less because there were few vehicles. I know that when the season comes, the tide will be flooded, but this year it is the highest flooding," said Mr. Thuc.
At more than 5:00 p.m., water from the Te Canal continued to flood, continuing to cause deep flooding. The authorities are still on duty in the area, guiding people to choose a suitable route and recommending limiting travel through deeply flooded areas to reduce the risk of vehicle damage.
