Successfully salvaged a fallen car in the cable break in Dien Bien

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, he was present at the scene of the break in the cable car of Pa Thom suspension bridge in Pa Xa Lao village, Thanh Yen commune, Dien Bien province.

After about 7 hours of searching, at around 5:10 p.m. on July 22, the authorities identified the location of the pickup truck about 150m downstream of the Nam Nu River from the suspension bridge.

Immediately after the location was determined, the salvage work was urgently carried out. At around 6:15 p.m., with the support of specialized vehicles, the pickup truck was brought ashore.

At the scene, the Toyota Hilux pickup truck was severely damaged.

Previously, at around 8:30 a.m. on July 22, the Pa Thom suspension bridge across the Nam Nu River, in Pa Xa Lao village, Thanh Yen commune, suddenly broke, causing the entire bridge surface to overturn and make it impossible for traffic.

The accident injured a pickup truck carrying 3 people and a motorbike driver traveling across the bridge. Of these, 3 people were on a pickup truck and the vehicle fell into the river.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan - Chairman of Thanh Yen Commune People's Committee - said: "The initial assessment of the cause of the incident was due to the impact of heavy rain, the bridge was old. The initial damage is estimated at about 1.2 billion VND, of which the cost of bridge damage is 800 million VND and the damage to the pickup truck is 400 million VND".

At noon on July 22, speaking with Lao Dong, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Thuong - Deputy Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department (Dien Bien Provincial Police) - said that the rescue work is facing many difficulties because the Nam Nua River in the scene area is 8-10m deep, the water is flowing rapidly, causing significant impact on the reconnaissance and search for the location of the car.
