On April 6, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province confirmed that, in response to the reflection of the serious damage to the anti-erosion embankment system in My Thuy village (Hai An commune, Hai Lang district, Quang Tri province), this unit requested an inspection and handling.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province requested the People's Committee of Hai Lang district to check and evaluate the actual reflections; Review, inspect, and evaluate the regulations on construction investment from the stages of design, appraisal, quality supervision, construction works, management, use, etc., thereby determining the cause of damage and the responsibility of relevant parties.
At the same time, direct relevant units to plan and have solutions to promptly handle and overcome the damage to the anti-landslide embankment before the 2025 storm season.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the My Thuy village anti-landslide embankment system project was started and then handed over to the locality for management and use in September 2023. This project is 380m long, invested by Hai An Commune People's Committee with an amount of more than 3.3 billion VND from the capital of the National Target Program on New Rural Development and Coefficients of the locality.
The project has not been put into use for long, but after the flood in 2024, water from upstream flooded strongly, the canal bed was narrow, so the strong flow caused tornadoes, erosion of the bottom floor, and landslides of many items such as embankment roof, sewers, barges, etc.
Witnessing the serious damage to the embankment, people are concerned that the upcoming storm season will be severely affected. The locality has inspected and determined that the project is severely damaged, but there is no funding, so it is not clear when it will be repaired.
