In recent days, dozens of people in Dong Van commune, Thanh Chuong district (Nghe An) have brought banners, drums and phones to livestream to protest the sand mining at Dong Van sand mine.
According to people's reflection, the sand dredging has caused deep river banks to erode, eating close to the cultivated land, greatly affecting production life and posing a potential risk to the safety of dykes.
Actual records show that many sections of the bank have been torn, creating deep and dangerous frog's jaw. A series of new traces of landslides appeared right near residential areas, causing people to be confused and upset.

On April 1, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Trinh Van Nha - Chairman of Thanh Chuong District People's Committee - said that he had issued a document to handle the incident.
Accordingly, the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong district requested Thanh Chuong Hotel and Transportation Exploitation Joint Stock Company to temporarily suspend sand exploitation activities at Dong Van commune mine to organize environmental renovation and restoration according to the approved plan, returning the mine area to a safe state.
At the same time, the district also requested to review the corner markers of the mining area, increase the placement of boundary markers to the North of the mining area (adjacent to the dike and production land) to facilitate inspection and supervision.
The company also had to install journey monitoring devices and store data on the location and journey of vehicles and equipment used in sand and gravel mining and transportation. Fully comply with legal regulations related to mineral exploitation activities.
Dong Van Commune People's Committee is assigned to continue to strengthen the protection of unexploited minerals according to regulations. Regularly inspect and supervise compliance with legal regulations on natural resources and environment during the operation of Thanh Chuong Hotel and Transportation Sand Exploitation and Exploitation Joint Stock Company. If violations are detected, strictly handle them according to authority; if they exceed authority, they must promptly report to the competent authority for handling according to regulations.
The District People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to advise the Provincial People's Committee to establish an Inspection Team to determine the impact of sand mining activities on riverbanks, banks, and river banks, as a basis for reporting to the Provincial People's Committee to review the suitability of License No. 2905/GP-UBND dated July 10, 2018 issued to enterprises.
According to Thanh Chuong District People's Committee, the inspection showed that the location where people expressed concern about landslides was within the boundary of the area licensed for exploitation according to the surface in License No. 2905/GP-UBND.
However, it was also discovered that a part of an area of over 1,000m2 had been exploited outside the boundary of the licensed area.
