In mid-June, the construction phase at the bidding packages of the Project to connect transportation to the northern mountainous provinces through Lao Cai province took place actively.
Nearly ten rollers and plastic watering trucks are still operating continuously at some remaining locations to complete the final items before acceptance.
The project connecting transportation to the northern mountainous provinces, invested by Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Construction), is expected to create motivation for socio-economic development, shorten travel time between Lao Cai and Lai Chau, and increase the connectivity of the Northwest region with the national transportation system.

According to records, package XL01 with a value of nearly 496 billion VND has been handed over the entire 18.5km of site. After many months of construction in complex hilly terrain conditions, many weak soil foundation positions and high risk of landslides, the actual output reached nearly 99.6% of the contract value.
Not far away, package XL02, more than 21km long with a value of more than 446 billion VND, also reached about 99% of the volume. The entire asphalt concrete road surface, bridge and culvert system and landslide treatment points have been completed. The contractor is currently focusing on completing some block walls, drainage ditches and auxiliary items.
Notably, package XL03, more than 23km long with a contract value of over 375 billion VND, has completed the entire volume of construction and installation. Units are carrying out technical inspection and completing dossiers to serve acceptance and handover of works.

On June 21, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Vu Ngoc Khoa - representative of the Project Management Board - said that so far, most of the main items have been completed, and the bidding package basically meets the set progress.
Only package XL07 remains, due to complex terrain, weak soil foundation and frequent landslides, so the contractor is focusing on handling the final items such as reinforcing the taluy slope, installing stone cages, and completing the roadbed.
At many locations, contractors have reduced machinery and manpower to move to the stage of completing completion dossiers, finalization and preparing for technical traffic opening on June 30," Mr. Vu Ngoc Khoa informed.

After many years of implementation, the project to connect transportation to the northern mountainous provinces is gradually becoming available with a new face.
When completed and put into operation, the road will not only help shorten travel time between Lao Cai and Lai Chau but also expand the space for economic, tourism, and trade development for localities in the region.
The project connecting traffic to the northern mountainous provinces includes 2 routes with a total length of about 200km. In which the route connecting Lai Chau with the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway (through 2 provinces Lao Cai and Lai Chau) with a length of about 147km; the route connecting Nghia Lo with the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway with a length of about 53km.
This project was started in December 2021 with a total investment of more than 5,370 billion VND, equivalent to 236.673 million USD, including: 188.363 million USD of ADB loans; 4.481 million USD of non-refundable aid from the Government of Australia and 43.829 million USD of counterpart funds from the Government of Vietnam.
