These days, the construction atmosphere on the construction site of the 14.7km long overpass under the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project is more urgent than ever. Hundreds of engineers and workers work continuously in many shifts, focusing on completing bridge girders, roadbeds and auxiliary items to meet new progress milestones.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), up to now, the entire section of Ring Road 3 passing through Ho Chi Minh City (before the merger) of more than 47km has reached about 60.1% of the construction value. In particular, 5 packages of the 14.7km overpass section have reached nearly 65% of the volume, of which the XL3 package passing through the Vinhomes Grand Park area is leading the entire project with the overpass basically completed.
This 14.7km section has a scale of 4 lanes, stretching from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to the Tan Van intersection. Previously, the route was expected to open to traffic at the end of 2025. However, according to the latest updated plan, the entire opening date has been postponed to April 30, 2026, due to dependence on the progress of Tan Van intersection - a project of Component Project 5 invested by the Traffic Project Management Board of Binh Duong province (now merged into Ho Chi Minh City).
Of which, 12.8km of the main overpass (from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Dong Tron Bridge area) still aims to be technically open to traffic on December 19, 2025, creating conditions for temporary connection, trial operation and completion of the remaining sections.
At the same time at the end of this year, the project also plans to open a 32.6km crushed stone aggregate road through the former Cu Chi, Hoc Mon and Binh Chanh areas, and at the same time open a total of 41.4km of technical traffic, including the sections through Dong Nai and Binh Duong before.
The entire Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 is 76.3km long, with a total investment of nearly VND 75,400 billion, expected to be completed by June 30, 2026. When completed, the first elevated route of Ho Chi Minh City will become a strategic connecting axis of the Southern key economic region, reducing the load on existing traffic routes, shortening the time for goods transportation and expanding the space for urban - industrial development of the region.
