On the afternoon of April 30, National Highway 1, the section passing Gianh Bridge (Ba Don Town, Quang Binh Province) experienced a congestion lasting more than 1km in the North - South direction.
During that time, the number of vehicles extended to the South increased dramatically, causing a long traffic jam in the area before and after Gianh Bridge.
A person participating on this route said that he had waited here for nearly 30 minutes. As of 6:15 p.m., the traffic jam continued.
Currently, the authorities are present to coordinate traffic.
To reduce the load on the current Gianh Bridge, a new Gianh Bridge is under construction and is expected to relieve traffic pressure in the area.
The project to build the new Gianh bridge started at Km624+799 (Ba Don town) and ended at Km626+901 (Ha My commune, Bo Trach district), with a total length of nearly 750m. The approach roads at both ends of the bridge are designed with a 20.5m wide roadbed with 4 lanes for motor vehicles. The bridge alone is 12m wide, including 2 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles.
With a modern design, when completed, the new Gianh Bridge will increase traffic capacity on National Highway 1, contributing to promoting socio-economic development for the North Quang Binh area.
However, in the current construction period, the old bridge route still has to "carry" all traffic, especially during peak holidays such as April 30 - May 1.
