In a telegram sent to the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Binh Thuan; the Ministries of National Defense, Public Security, Natural Resources and Environment, Transport, Industry and Trade, Information and Communications, Foreign Affairs; and news agencies and newspapers on September 16, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that a tropical depression (TLD) is operating in the sea east of Lu Dong Island (Philippines).
At 10:00 a.m. on September 16, 2024, the tropical depression had coordinates of 17.1 degrees north latitude, 124.4 degrees east longitude with winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 9.
It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move westward at a speed of 15-20km/h, with a level 7 intensity, gusting to level 9, and is likely to strengthen into a storm (according to the bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting).
To proactively respond to the developments of natural disasters, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development requests ministries, branches, and Chairmen of the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Binh Thuan to:
Closely monitor the developments of tropical depression; strictly manage vessels going out to sea; organize counting and notify owners of vessels, captains of ships and boats operating at sea of the location, direction of movement and developments of tropical depression to proactively avoid, escape or not move into dangerous areas. Dangerous areas in the next 24 hours: From latitude 15.0-19.0, east of longitude 118.0 (dangerous areas are adjusted in forecast bulletins).
Ready forces and means for rescue when required.
Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency, the coastal information station system and mass media agencies from central to local levels should strengthen measures to inform authorities at all levels, owners of means of transport operating at sea and people about the developments of natural disasters so that they can proactively prevent and respond.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development requested that the on-duty staff seriously and regularly report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (through the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control).
