Decisive handling in key areas
In Tam Binh ward, the ward police coordinated with Rach Chiec Traffic Police Team (Traffic Police Department - Ho Chi Minh City Police) to deploy to market areas and roads where violations often occur. Inspecting around Thu Duc wholesale market, the task force made records of 12 cases mainly with acts of displaying goods for sale, gathering items and parking vehicles encroaching on traffic safety corridors. Small traders were asked to collect goods and restore the current state of the sidewalk to remove potential unsafe spots.
Similarly, in Tang Nhon Phu ward, an inter-sectoral working group including traffic police, order police, urban order and grassroots security forces also launched operations on Le Van Viet street. Many individuals were recorded for street vending in prohibited places, illegal motorbike parking on sidewalks or using homemade trailers to do business on the road.
In Ben Thanh ward, "hot spots" such as Ben Thanh market, Thai Binh market and the area around Tu Du Hospital are also controlled. Previously, sidewalks in this area were often occupied to park motorbikes in 2-3 rows. Part of the reason is that this place previously piloted sidewalk rental (implemented from May 2024), but now the program has expired. To overcome this, the Ward Police currently maintain 3 patrol shifts/day, persistently sticking to the checkpoint.
Assign responsibility to heads and promote embellishment
At the launching ceremony of the peak period of inspection and handling of encroachment on roads and sidewalks in Ho Chi Minh City at the beginning of 2026, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong affirmed that the launching ceremony shows the determination of the entire political system in restoring urban order and ensuring traffic safety and order.
With a population of more than 14 million people, along with more than 12 million motorbikes and over 1.4 million cars, Ho Chi Minh City is facing many pressures in urban order management and traffic safety. Although there have been positive changes, the situation of sidewalk and roadway encroachment in some areas still recurs.
From that reality, city leaders requested departments, branches and localities to continue to synchronously implement solutions, maintain regular patrols, strictly handle violations, and at the same time emphasize the responsibility of local authorities in maintaining urban order and restoring safe space for pedestrians.
In parallel with handling violations, Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating the renovation of 91 central sidewalk routes, expected to be completed before the 2026 Lunar New Year. The combination of handling violations and renovating infrastructure is expected to definitively solve the sidewalk problem.
