Overcoming landslides, protecting coastal residents
According to Mr. Son Huynh Luan - Chairman of Long Vinh Commune People's Committee, the Giong Ban sea dike, Giong Ban hamlet is suffering from serious landslides, directly affecting the lives and production of coastal residents.
He said that currently, 45 households with a total area of productive land of more than 36.5 hectares are affected, of which 21 households are severely affected with a total landslide length of 1.1 km, 4 households are very seriously affected by landslides.
These households could not reinforce themselves, causing an estimated loss of about 3.5 billion VND, including lost production land and shrimp ponds. Timely remediation is urgent to protect people's property.
The People's Committee of Vinh Long province has allocated 11 billion VND from the 2025 budget reserve to build an emergency project including 2 sections of a 410-meter soft embankment. The project aims to protect affected households and limit the risk of dike breaches.

Mr. Luan emphasized that this urgent project not only helps protect assets, production land and shrimp ponds but also stabilizes agricultural and aquatic product production, while ensuring local national security and defense.
The commune has mobilized local forces to support people in temporarily reinforcing the dike, placing warning signs in dangerous areas and providing instructions on risk prevention. This is a proactive measure to respond to extreme weather.
" Overcoming the landslide in Giong Ban is also a solution to respond to climate change, high tides, big waves and strong southwest winds, helping to minimize damage and protect the lives of coastal communities," Mr. Luan added.
Timely response to landslides, protection of more than 200 households
According to Mr. Son Huynh Luan - Chairman of Long Vinh Commune People's Committee, Giong Ban Hamlet has 267 households with a total area of over 877 hectares. Currently, the 3 km long sea dike has landslides, affecting 45 households with 36.5 hectares of productive land.
If not repaired promptly, high tides and big waves can cause dike breaks, affecting more than 200 households and over 250 hectares of crops, risking damage of over VND 3,500 billion.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien - Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee said that according to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, many riverside and coastal dykes have suffered serious landslides.

The reason is due to climate change, extreme weather, high tides combined with strong winds, directly threatening the safety of hundreds of families, greatly affecting production and daily life of people.
Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has recorded 136 landslides, with a total length of more than 7.6 km, affecting over 520 households, with estimated damage of more than 25 billion VND.
"For seriously eroded works, the province has declared an emergency situation, arranged funding for reinforcement and repair. For small landslides, localities should proactively handle them according to the "4 on-site" motto," Mr. Thien added.
