Late deadline for overcoming landslides on Mang River dykes, people worry about the upcoming high tide

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - The project to overcome the landslide of the Mang River dike through Tan Long Hoi commune is delayed to October 2025, now expected to be solidly completed in December 2025.

Not raising fish because the dykes have not been solidly repaired

Right after the landslide on the 15th of July, the authorities promised to fix it firmly in October 2025, but so far only temporarily, people are worried about high tides.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, fish pond owner in Tan Hung hamlet (Tan Long Hoi commune) said that since the landslide occurred, river water has still seeped into the fish farming area every time the tide rose.

Although the locality has taken temporary measures to overcome the situation, according to Mr. Hong, the current dike system is still not strong enough for people to feel secure in production.

"The water level on the 30th of the 8th lunar month was still flooding the pond. My fish pond has about a month left to harvest, but after this period, I will stop releasing fish, wait until the dykes are reinforced to dare to raise them again," Mr. Hong added.

Similarly, Mr. Lam Van Chinh, who lives in the same commune, said that local people are monitoring the forecast of high tides and are very worried when they hear that the water in the third lunar month may exceed the alarm level. With the weak dike situation, many households are always in a state of anxiety.

"Only the water level on August 30 has been overflowing, let alone the budget for September. I really hope the project will be solidly repaired soon, so that the fruit garden and houses of the people will not be flooded, avoiding damage like the last time in June - July 2025," said Mr. Lam Van Chinh.

Mr. Chinh also emphasized: "We are all worried and hope that the authorities will quickly complete the dyke, both protecting the garden and fish ponds, and ensuring the safety of our houses and property when the tide rises".

Complete solid repair in December 2025

Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh - Acting Head of Project Management Department 1, Vinh Long Agricultural Project Management Board - said that the work of overcoming landslides on the Mang River embankment is being implemented according to the technical process and accelerated.

Currently, the construction unit has completed releasing pebbles to fill the river erosion holes, reinforcing cajuput and coconut goats, and is also filling the embankment to prevent high tides and protect residential areas.

Due to the large filling block, to ensure stability and safety, the project needs to be filled with many layers interspersed with waiting time for drying and monitoring subsidence before completion.

According to Mr. Vinh, the project is expected to be completed for solid repair in December 2025. Currently, the project is under warranty, the capital is allocated and used in accordance with regulations.

The construction unit is Hai Duong Embankment Construction and Rural Development Joint Stock Company, responsible for implementing the items according to the investor's plan.

"The construction work is closely monitored to ensure the progress and quality of the project, in accordance with technical regulations and safety," Mr. Vinh added.
