On February 27, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen The Nghi - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ban Cong Commune (Ba Thuoc District, Thanh Hoa Province) - said that after the landslide caused a house to collapse, the local government and functional agencies supported the family to clean up and overcome the consequences.

To ensure safety, the locality has evacuated all households in the area at risk of landslides to a safe place. Along with that, continue to coordinate with the district and relevant agencies to assess the risks to have a specific handling plan" - Mr. Nghi informed.
According to Mr. Nghi, in the coming time, it is likely that all 5 households in the affected area will have to be relocated to new residences. Because according to initial assessment, the landslide area is layered with rocks, there is a risk of landslides at any time. Up to now, there have been no landslides in this area.
"The biggest difficulty at present is land allocation, because although households have land, it is not in accordance with the planning, and the commune's land fund is not yet available. In case of forced resettlement, the commune will request the district to participate in supporting and arranging resettlement for households to soon stabilize their lives" - Mr. Nghi informed.
The representative of Ban Cong commune's leadership added that regarding the above incident, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province has issued a document directing the locality and sectors to request supervision, monitoring, and 24/7 duty in the landslide area to ensure safety.

Previously, as Lao Dong reported, at around 2:00 a.m. on February 26, when the family of Mr. Bui Van Hanh (53 years old, in Ca village, Ban Cong commune) was sleeping, they heard a loud noise from the top of the mountain. Seeing that, Mr. Hanh and his wife immediately ran out of the house. In just a short time, rocks and soil fell down and collapsed his family's house.
Fortunately, at the time of the incident, Mr. Hanh's family only had two husbands and children working far away, so there were no casualties.
At the scene, the house almost collapsed, and the furniture in the family was damaged, with initial estimated damage reaching hundreds of millions of VND.
