At around 4:30 a.m. on May 11, the road leading to Hoa Binh bridge (in Hoa Hoi commune, Chau Thanh district) suddenly collapsed, creating a deep hole, causing a car and 2 motorbikes to fall. The accident injured many people, of which the car was damaged an estimated 400 million VND and the 2 motorbikes were damaged about 20 million VND.
Immediately after the incident, leaders of Chau Thanh district quickly arrived at the scene to direct traffic flow, support the victims and coordinate the handling.
The district has also invited an independent consulting unit, UTC2 Joint Stock Company (under Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport) to investigate the cause and propose a solution.
According to the preliminary assessment from the consulting unit, there is a high possibility of the incident arising from the existence of a local mud bag under the existing roadbed, the design unit enters parameters from inaccurate geological data, leading to incorrect assessment of safety coefficients, thereby providing unoptimized foundation treatment solutions.
The construction unit, Vu Hoan Company Limited, has pledged to take full responsibility for the cost of remediating the consequences, including supporting the victims and repairing infrastructure.
Chau Thanh District People's Committee said that it will coordinate with the Department of Construction and relevant parties to implement the handling solution as soon as there is an official conclusion and plan from the consulting unit.
It is expected that the repair work will take place within 48 days, including: 7 days of construction of cement - soil piles to reinforce the foundation, 21 days of testing material quality, and 20 days of completing the road surface.
Hoa Binh Bridge was inaugurated on April 25, 2025, just a few weeks before the incident. The bridge over the Soc Hoa Hoi canal, connecting the two communes of Hoa Hoi and Hoa Thanh, plays an important role in the border traffic network of Chau Thanh district.
The project started on June 10, 2024 with a total length of 450 m, 12 m wide, of which the main bridge is 39.3 m long. The project has a total investment of over 37.8 billion VND, using the budget of Chau Thanh district and Tay Ninh province.
