Hue - Amid rising floods, Hue Central Hospital still maintains continuous medical examination and treatment, ensuring absolute safety for patients.

Uninterrupted medical examination and treatment

In recent days, prolonged heavy rains have caused the water level of the Huong and An Cuu rivers to rise, causing widespread flooding in Hue City.

From dawn on October 27, the river water rose rapidly, overflowing into the premises of Hue Central Hospital, Facility 1. By the afternoon, many first-floor departments such as Dermatology, Tropical Diseases, Cardiology... were deeply flooded.

As soon as the water level was detected to have risen, the Hospital's Board of Directors activated an emergency flood and storm prevention plan, implementing the "four on-site" motto: Command, force, means and logistics on-site. All officers and employees were mobilized to evacuate patients, raise equipment, ensure electricity, oxygen and daily logistics.

Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of the Hospital said that from the beginning of the storm season, the hospital has developed a response plan for each scenario. The highest goal is to ensure the safety of patients' lives and maintain continuous treatment, regardless of the circumstances.

On the afternoon of October 27, when the water began to flood, the entire hospital urgently moved patients and equipment to higher floors. Departments in low locations are given priority for relocation first. Medical staff soaked the patient in water, grabbed him and pushed him to a safe place.

Despite the deep flooding, emergency and treatment activities were not interrupted. Key centers such as Cardiovascular, Stroke, Intensive Care and Pedi are still operating continuously. The electricity, oxygen and domestic water systems are checked and reinforced every hour by the technical team. Working groups are on duty 24/7, ready to respond to incidents.

Experience in responding to floods

That same evening, floodwaters continued to rise, isolating the roads around the hospital. Medical and nursing staff were on duty all night, using small boats to transport medicine and equipment between departments. The nutritional quality for patients and their relatives is still fully guaranteed.

Upon receiving the information, the People's Committee of Hue City directed the armed forces and rescue forces to support the transportation of medicine, evacuate patients and ensure security in the hospital area. Thanks to timely coordination, treatment and emergency care are still taking place safely and continuously.

With more than 131 years of establishment and development, Hue Central Hospital has repeatedly faced natural disasters, especially floods in 1999 and 2020. That experience helps the unit build a flexible and practical response scenario. Before each storm season, the hospital conducts flood and storm prevention drills, checks the power supply and drainage system, pharmacy and archives records. Thanks to that, during this flood, there were no human or property losses, all patients were safe and treated stably.

Mr. Huynh Phuc Minh - Head of the Department of Infrastructure and Services of the hospital room, hospital security shared: "The water rose very quickly, we had to set up equipment, block the door, bring machinery and patients to the upper floors. tired but everyone is happy because everyone is safe".

Many doctors and nurses decided to stay at the hospital during the flood to ensure treatment. For them, the hospital is the first "front" to be maintained.

By the morning of October 28, the water began to recede but was still slow. Departments and rooms urgently clean, disinfect and stabilize operations. Medical examination and treatment and emergency care are carried out normally; electricity, oxygen, medicine and logistics are guaranteed. The hospital also organizes free meals for all patients and their relatives in difficult circumstances.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Xuan - Deputy Director of the Hospital said that the unit will continue to monitor water levels, prepare plans to prevent electricity, water, logistics and disinfection after floods, to ensure absolute safety for patients and medical staff.

The historic flood once again tested the endurance of the Central region, but also shone the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and bravery of the medical team of Hue Central Hospital - the resilient "white- shirted soldiers" in the middle of the sea, maintaining the health sector for the people.
