The Prime Minister recently requested Hanoi City to implement solutions so that by July 1, 2026, there will be no more motorbikes and mopeds using fossil fuels (gasoline, oil) circulating in Ring Road 1.
Ring Road 1 is determined to be closed through the following routes: Tran Chat Chan - Dai Co Viet - De La Thanh - Buoi - Cau Giay - Vo Chi Cong - Nghi Tam - Yen Phu - Tran Quang Khai. The total route is about 25km, with an area of about 31km2, of which West Lake accounts for about 5.2km2.
Ring Road 1 passes through 9 new wards (after the arrangement), including 6 wards: Ba Dinh, Ngoc Ha, Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, Hai Ba Trung and 3 partial wards: Tay Ho, O Cho Dua, Giang Vo. The population in the area is about 600,000 people.
There are currently nearly 450,000 motorbikes owned by people in the area, accounting for more than 6% of the total number of motorbikes in Hanoi.
A issue that the public is particularly interested in is how the city will build and develop the charging station system in the coming time, especially on Ring Road 1.
Regarding this issue, a representative of Hanoi Parking lots Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. said that to meet the electric charging needs of the people, the unit is coordinating with relevant parties to survey, collect statistics, and make a list of locations to arrange parking lots combined with charging stations along Ring Road 1.
Accordingly, there are 4 locations that are initially determined to be qualified and have areas to be arranged for vehicles combined with charging stations for electric vehicles, including: an empty space from house number 621-768 De La Thanh Street; a parking lot in the vacant land next to the headquarters of the Russian Embassy of the famous Ring Road 1 - Kim Ma - Cau Giay; sidewalks and vacant land along Tran Chat Chan Street from the intersection of Bach Mai Street to the intersection with Lac Nghiep Street, over 500m long; location of the vacant land in front of the headquarters of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines Corporation at the intersection of Xa Dan - Giai Phong.
The above locations are assessed to have a large enough area of land to both be a parking lot for motorbikes and install charging stations for electric vehicles. In addition, the current status of the premises of these locations is also being handed over to Hanoi Parking Lot Company for use as a parking lot for cars and motorbikes, so the organization and planning time is also very suitable.
According to Mr. Phan Truong Thanh - Head of Investment Finance Department, Hanoi Department of Construction, there are currently about 1,000 charging stations of all kinds in the city, including 3 types: Charging stations for public vehicles; charging stations for cars; charging stations for motorbikes and electric bicycles.
Mr. Thanh said that recently, the leaders of the Hanoi People's Committee have requested to review and clearly plan the charging station. From planning, businesses and investors do not know where to invest in charging stations.
"Hanoi is reviewing the overall parking lot locations in Ring Road 1 to install charging stations. People from other places can park their vehicles, charge, and travel by public transport" - Mr. Thanh said.
