When mentioning American automakers, names like Ford, GM, Stellantis and Tesla will probably come to mind. However, when it comes to the value of exported vehicles (excluding the number of exported vehicles), none of the above companies can compare with BMW. This title is thanks to the giant manufacturing facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina (USA).
Data from the US Department of Commerce shows that BMW's South Carolina production facility exported nearly 225,000 SUVs and crossovers in 2024 with a total value exceeding 10 billion USD to international markets.
BMW said that most of the cars it exports from the US are sold in Germany, South Korea, China, Canada and the UK. However, this airline also exports to 115 different countries. Although BMW is a German brand, the South Carolina facility is their world's largest single factory.
Since opening in 1994, the factory has assembled more than 2.7 million vehicles, accounting for about 63% of BMW's total output. In total, these export items are worth more than 104 billion USD.
In 2024 alone, the Spartanburg plant produced 396,117 vehicles, nearly half of which were sold domestically. The models that rolled out of the company's production line are: BMW X3, X4, X4 M, X5, X5 M, X6, X6 M, X7 and XM SUV.
Sharing with the press, Dr. Robert Engelhorn - Chairman and CEO of BMW Manufacturing said: "With the achievement of being a leading automobile importer, it has proven BMW's reliable partnership with this state and our commitment to continuous development with the US".
