According to the April 2026 sales report of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the auto market recorded outstanding growth of the electrified vehicle group, especially hybrid vehicles and pure battery electric vehicles (BEV).
In April 2026, hybrid car sales reached 1,723 vehicles, an increase of 53% compared to the same period in April 2025.
Accumulated in the first 4 months of 2026, hybrid sales reached 6,848 vehicles, an increase of 86% compared to the same period in 2025, becoming the group of cars with the highest growth rate among segments as statistically determined by VAMA.
In the pure battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment, April 2026 recorded 49 vehicles sold, bringing the total cumulative sales from the beginning of the year to 50 vehicles.
This is a significant increase compared to the same period last year when BEV sales were not recorded in VAMA's statistical system.
Meanwhile, total market sales in April 2026 reached 31,937 vehicles, down 17% compared to March 2026 but still up 8% compared to April 2025.
Specifically, passenger cars reached 21,284 vehicles, commercial vehicles reached 9,805 vehicles and specialized vehicles reached 848 vehicles.
Compared to the previous month, passenger car sales decreased by 14%, commercial vehicles decreased by 26%, while specialized vehicles increased by 62%.
By origin, domestically assembled car sales reached 13,924 vehicles, down 11% compared to the previous month; completely built-up imported cars reached 18,013 vehicles, down 22%.
In general, in the first 4 months of 2026, total market sales reached 101,269 vehicles, an increase of 23% compared to the same period in 2025.
In which, passenger cars increased by 22%, commercial vehicles increased by 17%, specialized vehicles decreased sharply but hybrids increased by 86%.
VAMA also said that domestically assembled car sales cumulatively by the end of April increased by 16%, while imported cars increased by 32% compared to the same period last year.
Data shows that the trend of electrification is clearly increasing in the Vietnamese auto market, with the growth rate of hybrid cars far exceeding the general rate of the entire industry in April as well as the beginning of 2026.
