It is known that Mercedes-AMG One was first launched in September 2017 under the name Project One, but it was not until June 2022 that the new production version was officially revealed.
However, customers had to wait longer, because the delivery process did not start until early 2023. In fact, the task of adjusting the F1 engine block to comply with traffic standards on public roads is not easy.
The challenges are mainly related to the 1.6L turbocharged V6 engine inherited from Lewis Hamilton's F1 model, however, the recent large-scale recall order issued by the German Transport Agency - Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) - to fix another defect, affecting 219 Mercedes-AMG One vehicles.
The KBA is urging Mercedes-AMG to fix a defect to avoid leading to a fire risk for the above hypercar. Specifically, the hydraulic pipes of the active rear wing on this Mercedes-AMG One may lack a lock. In the worst case, hydraulic solutions can leak and catch fire when exposed to high- Temperature details nearby.
Accordingly, Mercedes-AMG One vehicles subject to recall need to be inspected to determine whether the lock is properly installed or not. The KBA said the repair process will take an average of 90 minutes per vehicle.
Mercedes only produces 275 AMG One vehicles globally, so this recall has affected nearly 80% of all vehicles.
Most of the recalled vehicles are in Germany - where 183 owners need to contact Mercedes-AMG to schedule a problem handling. The recall report said that the AMG One vehicles subject to recall were shipped from December 12, 2022 to May 9, 2025. Meanwhile, the Mercedes AMG One production line started in August 2022 at AMG's specialty facility in Coventry (UK).
Up to now, 2 AMG One vehicles have caught fire, but the KBA does not believe that these incidents are related to the issue mentioned in the recall. The first Mercedes-AMG One was destroyed in a trailer fire in the UK in May 2023, while the second hypercar caught fire on the roadside a few weeks ago in Germany.
Mercedes-AMG One is a hypercar model equipped with a V6 engine with a maximum capacity of 574 horsepower. Combined with 4 electric motors, this structure produces a maximum capacity of 1,063 horsepower, accompanied by a 7-speed automatic transmission with an integrated electric motor.
The hypercar model has 6 driving modes including Race Safe, Race Race, EV, Race Plus, Strat 2 and Individual. The RACE START feature gives the AMG One the ability to accelerate to 100 km/h from a standstill in 2.9 seconds.
The Mercedes-AMG One has a starting price of 2.7 million USD and is limited to 275 units worldwide. The actual orders of this hypercar are 4 times as high as the above figure, but the German "car tycoon" refused to increase the number of cars.
