Discussing this issue, Lawyer Nguyen Thu Trang, Deputy Director of Heva Law Company Limited, said that the current regulations on civil liability insurance for motor vehicles (including motorbike insurance) are regulated in Decree 67/2023/ND-CP.
According to current regulations, unclaimed vehicles can still buy insurance normally.
However, when buying this motorbike insurance, people need to pay attention to some important issues:
When buying insurance for a car, you need to bring the car owner's papers and the car owner's personal papers to fill in information on the insurance certificate.
In the case of voluntary motorbike insurance or extended insurance, people may need to prepare some other documents to prove that they are the car owner to enjoy benefits from insurance packages. For example: Documents proving the purchase and sale, transfer of motorbikes.
Another issue people need to pay attention to, according to Decree 67/2023/ND-CP, when changing ownership, civil liability insurance contracts also end.
Therefore, old car buyers are no longer entitled to the insurance benefits of the car and are required to buy new civil liability insurance for the purchased vehicle.
When buying motorbike insurance, citizens need to prepare the following documents:
Identity card or citizen identification card of the vehicle owner (the owner himself).
Motorbike registration certificate (vehicle registration certificate).
In case citizens have just bought an old car from another owner and have not completed the procedures for transferring ownership for the car, when buying non-genuine motorbike insurance, they need to provide additional documents on car trading activities.
Citizens who buy motorbike insurance directly at agents or insurance company headquarters or buy motorbike insurance online all need to provide information from the above two types of documents to fill in information on the motorbike insurance certificate.
Regarding motorbike insurance premiums, people need to note that currently motorbike insurance has 2 types: compulsory insurance and voluntary insurance.
Motorcycle insurance is a familiar term. According to legal terms, motorcycle insurance has 2 types: civil liability insurance of motor vehicle owners (compulsory). Without this type of insurance, people will be fined according to the provisions of law.
The second type of insurance is voluntary motorbike insurance. Road users can buy more to bring benefits to pay financial compensation for property or people on the vehicle (including vehicle owner and passengers) when encountering accidents, fires, explosions or robberies. Without buying this insurance, people will not be fined.
Conversely, if there is only voluntary insurance but no mandatory civil liability insurance for motor vehicle owners, people will still be fined.
Motorbike insurance premiums are still set according to the provisions of Decree 67/2023/ND-CP.
Accordingly, the common motorbike insurance premium for vehicles over 50cc of the same price companies is 66,000 VND/year.
Motorbikes under 50cc: 60,500 VND/year.
Large displacement motorcycles, 3-wheeled motorcycles and other types of vehicles over 175cc: 319,000 VND/year.
