The 50cc car market is gradually narrowing
SYM is one of the motorbike brands that has been present in the Vietnamese market since very early, making its mark with compact scooters and manual transmission motorbikes, designed to suit young people. The company's 50cc under 50cc models were once highly appreciated for not requiring a driver's license, fuel economy and low cost. However, this segment is currently in a difficult position.
The main reason is the sharp decline in market demand. Young consumers are shifting to compact, fuel-free electric vehicles with low operating costs and environmental friendliness. Meanwhile, many 50cc gasoline cars of SYM are considered "aging" in terms of design and technology, no longer catching up with new trends.
In addition, the increasingly tightening emission control policy also greatly affects the purchasing power of gasoline motorbikes, especially the 50cc line, which is not strong in emission treatment technology.
Cheap electric vehicles that do not require a driver's license such as VinFast Evo or Dat bike Mini are strongly attracting students - a customer group that was once a strength of SYM.
