Customers hesitate to buy used cars
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (name of character changed) - owner of a used car business store in Cau Giay ward shared that in the past 6 months, when there was information related to low emission zones, as well as emission regulations for cars in the Ring Road 1 area, some customers who intended to buy cars before showed hesitation and did not decide to spend money.
The number of customers has decreased significantly in the past 6 months. Not only passengers, but also used car businesses like us have to listen to the situation and have conversion plans when emission regulations are tightened. Since the beginning of last year, our store has focused on purchasing high-end cars, limiting or not buying cars from 2017 and earlier.
In addition, hybrid cars and electric cars are being popular these days. We are also calculating to convert to meet customer needs," Mr. Hieu shared.
According to Mr. Kien (name of the character changed) - managing a used car business store in Nghia Do ward, for many years this unit has mainly only purchased and sold high-end car lines - "swipe or super swipe" (from 2020 to present). Trading these car lines will reduce a lot of maintenance costs before sale.
Also according to Mr. Kien, used car business units are mainly intermediaries between people who need to sell and buyers, taking commission percentages. "That's why we only accept cars that are still in inspection, conduct basic cleaning and maintenance before selling. Now buying cars from 2016 and earlier is very difficult to sell," Mr. Kien shared.
PV's actual survey shows that many used car dealerships in Hanoi mainly sell car models from 2019 to present, with very few or no car models from 2018 and earlier.
Be more careful when buying
Present at a used car business store in Yen Hoa ward (Hanoi), Mr. Ngoc (from Bac Ninh) said that he had heard information about tightening emission controls for cars when reading newspapers. However, according to Mr. Ngoc, when buying a car, he only grasped the most basic information about the car, and whether it meets the conditions for registration for the most recent period or not, he could not know.
I bought the car at a price suitable for my conditions. I asked another party to check on things like collisions, flooding, paperwork... But saying now that the car must be checked for emission conditions to register is very difficult," Mr. Ngoc shared.
Mr. Ngoc also expressed concern - "In case the car does not meet the conditions for discharge when it has gone for maintenance, how will it be handled? We also hope that functional agencies will have more specific guidance so that people can be proactive in this inspection.
According to Mr. Duc - owner of a used car business store in Nghia Do ward, currently some car care centers are also planning to invest in emission control systems when customers bring cars for maintenance.
However, the issue of how to have a synchronous system, giving results that match the results of the new registration centers is difficult. Some of my friends who work in garages are researching to have solutions. This may be the upcoming trend when the need for people to check emissions before going for registration increases," Mr. Duc shared.
