Launched in 2018 and refreshed in 2022, the 12th generation Corolla will continue to be upgraded by Toyota in 2025.
However, the most important change this time is the complete elimination of the choice of gasoline engines, replaced by a standard hybrid powertrain.
All Corolla models in Japan will now use a 1.8L hybrid engine combining a 97 horsepower gasoline engine and a 94 horsepower electric motor on the front axle.
Customers can choose the E- Four four-wheel drive version, equipped with a 40-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle to improve performance on many terrains.
This move follows a similar strategy that Toyota has applied in Europe since 2022, where Corolla also switched to using a full hybrid system, with the option of 1.8L and 2.0L engines.
Not only the changes in the powertrain, the new Corolla version in Japan is also upgraded in terms of equipment. Some notable features include a front-rear dual-trip camera, a digital key, and an advanced driving assistance system such as blind spot warning, safe door opening assist, and automatic brakes when parking.
The versions also have differences in design and amenities. The standard Corolla Hybrid X uses 15-inch steel wheels with plastic surfaces, no central entertainment screen, and a analog cluster.
Meanwhile, the higher-end G version is equipped with 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels, LED fog lights and more modern amenities.
The starting price of the Corolla Hybrid X is 2.279 million yen (about 406 million VND), while the most premium Touring active Sport Hybrid E- Four version is priced at 3.41 million yen (about 608 million VND).
According to sources such as Carscoops, the next generation of Toyota Corolla is expected to launch globally in 2026, promising many improvements in both technology, performance and design.
