People feel secure in switching to electric vehicles
On a weekend morning at an electric motorbike introduction spot in Cau Giay (Hanoi), Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, an office worker, shared that he had just decided to buy the first electric motorbike for his family.
Mr. Huy said: "I go to work about 7km from home, spending a lot of money on gasoline every day, polluting the environment. Since switching to electric cars, I have found more economy, especially cars that run smoothly and do not cause noise. The increasingly popular charging infrastructure also helps me feel more secure when using it.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Mai Thi Huyen, in Dong Ngac ward, Hanoi, said that her family bought 2 VinFast electric cars for her children to go to school and work for herself. At first, I was hesitant about battery life, but the company's long-term warranty policy made me feel secure. Electric vehicles are suitable for daily travel needs in the city, and the cost is cheaper than gasoline vehicles, said Ms. Huyen.
practical experiences from people are also reflected in market data. According to Motorcycles Data, in the first half of 2025, Vietnam will consume about 209,000 new electric motorbikes, nearly double the same period in 2024. This figure makes Vietnam the world's third largest electric motorbike market, behind only China and India.
Motorcycles Data also said that the electric motorbike segment does not require a driver's license, with a motor capacity of less than 4 kW, the strongest growth with an increase of 112% compared to 2024. This is a product line aimed at students, pupils and families with limited means of transportation. The increased purchasing power in the summer further shows that consumer habits have gradually shifted from gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles.
In addition to people, motorbike manufacturing enterprises also expressed their readiness. Ms. Phung Minh Nguyet - Vice President of the Vietnam Automobile, Motorcycle and Bicycle Association (VamoBA) - commented: "Compared to neighboring countries, Vietnam's transformation is still slow, but businesses can completely shorten it. The Association has directed members to limit the production of gasoline vehicles and increase investment in the production of electric vehicles. The output can reach 1.5 million units per year, meeting domestic demand and aiming for export".
The trend of "greening" electric motorbikes
According to Ms. Phung Minh Nguyet (VamoBA), air pollution in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is getting worse due to millions of motorbikes discharging waste. Converting to electric vehicles is not only an economical choice, but also an urgent requirement to protect public health.
Vietnam can completely set a net zero emissions target by 2050. If implemented seriously, we will not only improve the living environment but also promote the strong development of the electric vehicle industry, Ms. Nguyet emphasized.
From a business perspective, VinFast is also offering many policies to help users more easily switch to green. On August 15, 2025, the company announced the application of a 6-year warranty policy for the vehicle and an 8-year warranty for the LFP battery, with no limit on the number of kilometers. This is considered the best warranty policy on the market today, far surpassing many traditional gasoline car manufacturers.
A representative of VinFast said that the company will launch a series of incentives such as free battery charging at the V-Green system nationwide until the end of May 2027, giving registration fees and 10% of car prices, supporting installment loans up to 90% of car value. Enterprises are coordinating to organize a series of events "Change gasoline for electricity - Together with VinFast create a green future" in many provinces and cities to support people to directly convert.
According to the report, VinFast is currently in the top 10 largest electric motorbike manufacturers in the world. In 2024, the company's sales reached nearly 71,000 vehicles in Vietnam, accounting for about 3% of domestic gasoline vehicle sales. In the first quarter of 2025, VinFast's global sales of electric motorbikes and bicycles increased more than 5 times compared to the same period last year.
In parallel with the development of businesses, the Government also has a clear orientation. According to Decision 876/QD-TTg, from 2040, Vietnam will move towards ending the production and import of motorbikes using fossil fuels; by 2050, all road motor vehicles will use electricity or green energy. Charging infrastructure is being invested in to meet demand.
The trend of greening electric motorbikes is not only a goal of the State but also comes from the actual needs of consumers. The market currently has many car models with prices ranging from a few million to more than 50 million VND, meeting a variety of segments. Many parents also choose electric vehicles for their children because of their convenience and environmental friendliness.
Along with that, the development of battery technology, especially safer and more durable LFP batteries, helps users gain more confidence. The widespread distribution system and service workshops of large enterprises such as VinFast are gradually completing the infrastructure chain, bringing convenience when using electric vehicles.
It can be seen that the combination of State policies, efforts of businesses and acceptance from the people is turning electric motorbikes into a safe and inevitable choice.
