From August 15, 2025, the Vietnam Road Administration will pilot the ban on trucks running in lane 1 ( sating the median strip) on the two expressways of Hanoi - Hai Phong and Phap Van - Cau Gie (from Km182+300 to Km211+250) for 1 month.
During the pilot period, on the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway, the minimum traffic speed of vehicles in lane 1 was also increased to 90km/h (previously 80km/h), the remaining lanes remained the same as at present.
On the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, the minimum speed in lane 1 increased to 80km/h (previously 60km/h). In lane 2, the minimum speed increased to 70km/h (previously 60km/h).
Explaining the adjustment, the Vietnam Road Administration said that the congestion situation at the two expressways mentioned above is complicated, including the gateway area of Hanoi City. Therefore, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) - Ministry of Public Security has proposed dividing lanes and reorganizing traffic on the two expressways. This is a necessary task to strengthen solutions to ensure traffic order and safety.
In recent days, according to the reporter's records on the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, the Highway Traffic Police Team No. 3 - Traffic Police Department has arranged officers and soldiers to direct traffic, reminding truck drivers about the new regulations right at the toll station area.
Mr. Nguyen Van Giao (Thanh Hoa - a truck driver for many years) said that he completely supports this new lane division adjustment method. Having frequently traveled long distances, especially on highways, Mr. Giao has encountered many cases of heavy trucks moving at slow speed in lane 1, affecting the general traffic flow.
"I think the authorities have also surveyed and researched carefully before deciding to divide the lane like this. However, the awareness of each driver is still the most important. If the inner lane allows him to run 120km/h but he only runs 80km/h, it will be extremely uncomfortable for those behind him" - Mr. Giao shared.
In addition to guiding the toll station, the Traffic Police also used specialized cars to patrol and promptly reminded truck drivers to deliberately enter lane 1. In the coming days, the traffic police will continue to coordinate with the road management unit to complete the installation of a lane division and speed announcement system.
According to the Traffic Police Department, after days of propaganda and guidance for truck drivers, the unit will punish cases of intentional violations.
