The electronic information page of the Can Tho Department of Health updates information that the Can Tho City People's Committee (TP) has issued a Decision on reorganizing regional health centers under the City Department of Health.
Accordingly, from August 31, 2026, 20 regional health centers will be reorganized into 20 regional general hospitals.
The reorganized units include: Binh Thuy Regional General Hospital, Cai Rang, Thoi Lai, O Mon, Thot Not, Vinh Thanh, Vi Thuy, Long My, Phung Hiep, Chau Thanh, Chau Thanh A, Cu Lao Dung, Ke Sach, Soc Trang, Vinh Chau, Nga Nam, My Xuyen, Long Phu, My Tu and Thanh Tri.
Regional general hospitals after reorganization have legal status, private seals and are allowed to open accounts at the State Treasury according to regulations. At the same time, functions, tasks and personnel on preventive medicine work under regional health centers are transferred to health stations directly under the People's Committees of communes and wards to perform tasks according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health.
After reorganization, regional general hospitals are arranged with functional rooms and specialized departments suitable to the scale and tasks of each unit.
In the appendix attached to the decision, most regional general hospitals are identified as public non-business units that self-ensure a part of regular expenditures (Group 3). Some units such as Vinh Chau, Nga Nam, My Xuyen, My Tu and Thanh Tri regional general hospitals self-ensure regular expenditures (Group 2).

According to this Decision, Can Tho City People's Committee assigned the Director of the Department of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to implement the reorganization; develop regulations on functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of units; direct the development of a project on job positions, civil servant structure and implement contents related to personnel, assets, finance, and seals according to regulations.
