At noon on September 23, the Quang Tri Provincial Sub-Department of Food Safety said that the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute had tested food samples and specimens related to the case of dozens of people hospitalized suspected of food poisoning in Cam Lo commune (Quang Tri province).
Notably, out of 11 food samples taken at the facility for investigation, up to 9 samples were found to contain Salmonella spp bacteria.
Positive samples include beef sausage, fish sausage, vegetables, braised meat, sweet and sour, cucumbers, bread, sandwiches and broth. Only 2 out of 11 food samples did not detect this bacteria.
For specimens of related cases, test results also showed that 11/13 samples detected Salmonella spp. Among them, one sample simultaneously detected Salmonella spp. and Staphylococcus aureus. The other two samples did not find intestinal disease-causing bacteria.
According to the Quang Tri Provincial Sub-Department of Food Safety, Salmonella spp. is a bacteria that often causes acute digestive diseases with symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting. If not treated promptly, patients may face the risk of serious complications.
From the results of food and specimen testing, specialized agencies have transferred information to Cam Lo Commune People's Committee to continue investigating and clarifying the cause as well as the relationship between samples with positive results for Salmonella spp.
Previously, from September 14th to 15th, many people after eating bread at a food business in the Cua area, Cam Lo commune, developed symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea and dehydration.
By 3:00 PM on September 15th, Cam Lo Regional General Hospital had received and treated 46 patients related to the incident, and by September 22nd, the patients had been discharged.
After the suspected food poisoning incident occurred, Cam Lo Commune People's Committee held a meeting and directed the professional department to review food business establishments in the area. The business establishment related to the incident is still temporarily suspended from operation to serve the verification and investigation work.
Cam Lo Commune People's Committee also established inspection teams to review food business activities in the area.
