French Ambassador to Vietnam - Mr. Olivier Brochet - on behalf of the French Government presented this noble Medal to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu. He is the second representative of the Vietnamese medical industry to receive this award, after the late Associate Professor Dr. Ton That Bach.
This is one of the noble awards of the French Government established in the early 19th century, under Napoleon I, to honor individuals with great contributions in the fields of education, science, French culture and arts..., in recognition of Professor Nguyen Huu Tu's contributions to the development of Francophone cooperation in Vietnam and especially French-Vietnamese medical training cooperation.
According to Ambassador Olivier Brochet, the French Government's award of the Academic Palm Medal to Professor Nguyen Huu Tu honors a person who represents both academic excellence and dedication to medicine, as well as tirelessly promoting the values of the Francophone community.
Ambassador Olivier Brochet shared some important milestones with Professor Tu’s contributions as a bridge for medical training cooperation between France and Vietnam. One of his most notable achievements is the development of the French-language medical training program at Hanoi Medical University (established in 2005), making this program a successful model.
To date, more than 800 French-speaking doctors have graduated and nearly 100 medical theses have been defended in French before an international jury, including Vietnamese and French professors.
Professor Tu trained as a resident physician (FFI) in Lyon, France since 1994. He then returned to France several times as a physician and clinical lecturer at Henri Mondor Hospital, Creteil and Paris XII University.
As Vice Rector in charge of University Training, in charge of the French program at Hanoi Medical University, and then Rector of Hanoi Medical University, Professor Tu made many contributions in connecting and building cooperative exchange programs for training, student and lecturer exchanges with prestigious and long-standing universities and institutes in France such as Sorbonne University, Montpellier Medical University, Aix Marseille Medical University, etc.
At the Medal receiving ceremony, Professor Nguyen Huu Tu was moved to say: Hanoi Medical University with a history of 122 years, the first President of which was Dr. Alexandre Yersin - an outstanding French scientist, honorary citizen of Vietnam, has always been a historical, vivid and effective symbol of the relationship and cooperation in medicine between France and Vietnam. Therefore, he personally deeply understands the importance of the French - Vietnamese cooperation in medicine, and is grateful for what he has received from French teachers and colleagues, so he realizes his responsibility to future generations for the task of building a solid foundation for the cooperation and comprehensive development of medicine between Vietnam and France.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu was born in 1968, graduated as a general practitioner from Hanoi Medical University in 1990, and graduated as a resident physician, specializing in anesthesia and resuscitation in 1993. He then graduated from two specialized hospital residency programs in anesthesia and resuscitation in France.
From 2000 to 2003, he was a researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research, French Republic, and a teaching assistant at the University of Paris XII, Creteil. In 2003, he graduated with a doctorate in medicine from Hanoi Medical University.
He was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2007 and Professor in 2014 by Hanoi Medical University and is the youngest Associate Professor and Professor in the medical field to be recognized at this time.
