On June 24, information from the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control said that in the first 6 months of 2025, localities recorded high numbers of measles cases including: Buon Don (93 cases), Krong Pac (83 cases), followed by M'Drak (31 cases), Ea Sup (30 cases) and Krong Buk (29 cases).
Although there have been no deaths, the sudden increase in the number of cases compared to the same period last year (only 1 case) has raised concerns about the risk of spreading in the community.
In this situation, the provincial health sector has launched a measles vaccination campaign to strengthen community immunity. The vaccination rate in children aged 6 months reached 76.1%; the group aged 6 to under 9 months reached 79.8%; but the group aged 11-15 only reached 22.5%.
Notably, the measles - rubella vaccination rate in the regular vaccination program for children for only 18 months has reached 46.8%, much lower than the target of at least 95% to ensure community immunity.
The health sector has synchronously deployed response measures such as epidemic monitoring, testing samples, and increased communication through newspapers, television and social networks. Dates and catch-up vaccinations for children are also regularly organized at health stations.
In the context of the epidemic still at risk of an outbreak, the health sector recommends that people, especially parents, proactively get their children fully vaccinated and on schedule.
Vaccination not only helps protect individuals but also creates an immune shield for the community.
