According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Khanh Hoa province, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole province has recorded more than 3,330 cases of dengue fever.
Of these, 164 outbreaks have been handled and 41 are active. The number of cases has increased 2.6 times, the number of outbreaks has increased 3.2 times compared to the same period in 2024.
Notably, in the old Khanh Son district - where no cases were recorded in 2024 - this year, 65 cases of dengue fever have appeared.
Dengue fever cases are concentrated in Ma O and Ta I villages in Dong Khanh Son commune. Many cases in June have exceeded the epidemic warning threshold.
In particular, Khanh Hoa recorded 1 death due to dengue fever in Suoi Dau commune in May. The patient has a history of high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
The victim self-treated at home before being hospitalized in serious condition and did not survive. The victim was identified as living in the epidemic area, with surrounding cases.
Immediately after recording the death, the local health sector deployed to handle the outbreak in the area. The health sector also organizes spraying of mosquito repellent twice every 7 days, killing mosquito larvae, and promotes people to raise their vigilance.
Through monitoring, many new cases of dengue fever were detected and have been treated.
In this context, the CDC of Khanh Hoa province has issued documents directing and guiding epidemic prevention and control; at the same time, coordinating with the Cam Lam District Medical Center to handle the outbreak where the death occurred.
Localities have also organized a campaign to kill mosquito larvae and spray chemicals, and communicated to people in response to the 15th ASEAN Day for dengue prevention and control.
Mr. Ton That Toan - Deputy Director in charge of CDC Khanh Hoa said that in addition to the subjective cause of the people, the interruption of the infectious disease reporting software of the Ministry of Health also makes updating, verifying cases, and handling outbreaks difficult.
Meanwhile, the weather with frequent showers is a favorable condition for disease-carrying mosquitoes to thrive.
Currently, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Health Department calls on people to proactively coordinate in killing mosquito larvae, eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, and actively participating in spraying chemicals to prevent epidemics.
The CDC of Khanh Hoa province also recommended that the Department of Health advise the Provincial People's Committee to establish inspection teams for disease prevention and control. In particular, especially in communes/wards after the merger, to mobilize the participation of the entire political system at the grassroots level.
