The Olympic Sports Urban Area project was started on December 19, with an area scale of more than 9,000 hectares, an expected population of about 751,000 people, becoming the largest urban development project ever in Hanoi.
The project spans 11 communes, including: Dai Thanh, Ngoc Hoi, Nam Phu, Thuong Tin, Hong Van, Chuong Duong, Thuong Phuc, Binh Minh, Tam Hung, Thanh Oai, Dan Hoa. Preliminary total investment is about 925,000 billion VND.
The project is expected to be divided into 4 component projects according to the main sub-zones, in which the highlight is the stadium with a capacity of 135,000 seats meeting FIFA standards built in sub-zone B, expected to be completed in 2028.
The Olympic sports urban area is built with the aim of allowing the Capital to be eligible to host major continental and international sports events such as the Asian Games (ASIAD), Olympic Games...
The project is also expected to become the nucleus of new urban development, synchronously connecting the social infrastructure system, technical infrastructure of the research area and neighboring projects, ensuring a modern and uniform architectural - landscape space organization.
Leaders of Dai Thanh Commune People's Committee emphasized that site clearance (GPMB) for the Olympic Sports Urban Area project is a top priority task, requiring the synchronous and drastic involvement of the entire political system from the commune to the village.
Immediately after the project commencement ceremony, the Commune People's Committee closely coordinated with the investor and the survey consulting unit to determine the project boundary, review villages with land within the recovery boundary, and agree on measurement plans and land ownership.
From December 24 to December 31, 2025, the commune organized ownership recognition of more than 12,652 plots out of a total of about 14,768 plots, reaching 85.67%.
Dai Thanh Commune People's Committee sets a target that in January 2026, it will approve and pay compensation to households who agree; strive to complete the approval of compensation, support and resettlement plans for the project in February 2026.
In Thanh Oai commune, the total land area recovered for project implementation is about 1,485ha. Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of Thanh Oai Commune People's Council Bui Hoang Phan said that the Olympic Sports Urban Area is a key project, large-scale, with strategic significance for the development of the Capital in general and Thanh Oai commune in particular.
Therefore, the Commune People's Committee and professional departments need to proactively coordinate closely with the investor in reviewing legal documents and land origins; ensure accurate and objective inventory and measurement work; and at the same time strengthen propaganda and mobilization, creating high consensus among the people.
And Vice Chairman of Thuong Tin Commune People's Committee Uong Thi Phuong emphasized that site clearance work is an important task, decisive for the progress, efficiency, and success of the project.
For the investment project to build the Olympic Sports Urban Area, the volume of site clearance work is very large, directly related to the rights of the people. Site clearance work must be carried out in accordance with the law, publicly, transparently, ensuring the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of the people.
Local authorities will also resolutely handle cases of intentional violations, obstruction, and affecting the overall progress of the project.
