On February 27, news from the Department of Construction of Khanh Hoa province said that the unit has registered the content to submit to the Prime Minister for approval of the investment policy for the Nha Trang - Da Lat expressway project in April 2026.
The route is expected to break the "unique path" of National Highway 27C, opening up a strategic connecting axis between the South Central Coast and the Central Highlands.
According to the key task plan for 2026, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee is urgently completing technical and legal dossiers to submit to competent authorities for consideration of investment policy for the Nha Trang - Da Lat expressway.
The project implementation is assessed as an urgent requirement in the context that National Highway 27C - the main connecting route between Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong - frequently experiences landslides during the rainy and storm season.
After the natural disasters at the end of 2024 and November 2025, traffic was cut off at many times, disrupting goods transportation, tourism and inter-regional trade.
In that context, a high-tech standard expressway, ensuring long-term safety and stability, is considered a fundamental solution.
The project not only contributes to reducing traffic pressure and increasing safety, but also creates motivation for economic development and strengthens intercommunication between the South Central Coast seaport system and the tourist center of Lam Dong province.
According to the planning plan, the Nha Trang - Da Lat expressway has a total length of about 80.8km, a scale of 4 complete lanes, and a roadbed width of 22m to 24.75m.
The starting point of the project is expected to intersect with the North-South expressway in the East at Dien Tho commune, Dien Khanh district, Khanh Hoa province (Km0+00). The ending point is at the Darahoa intersection, Lam Vien ward, Da Lat city, Lam Dong province (Km80+810).
In which, the section through Khanh Hoa province is about 44km long, and the section through Lam Dong is about 36.8km long.
Regarding the financial plan, the People's Committees of Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provinces proposed to invest in the public-private partnership (PPP) method, BOT contract type, with capital support from the State budget.
Preliminary estimates, if state capital participates in 70% of the total investment, the investor's capital recovery time is about 23 years and 7 months.
The preliminary total investment of the project is 25,058 billion VND, of which construction costs are about 18,889 billion VND. According to the expected roadmap, the 2024–2025 period focuses on preparing for investment; starting construction from 2026 and completing and putting into operation in 2028.
When completed, this expressway will directly connect to the Dau Giay - Lien Khuong expressway system, forming a synchronous inter-regional traffic axis, promoting socio-economic development in the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions.
