Project to upgrade National Highway 279 connecting Lai Chau with Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway
The project to connect the northern mountainous provinces with the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway is funded by the Asian Development Bank and the Australian Government.
The project consists of two connecting routes, of which route 1 is 147 km long, connecting Lai Chau with the Hanoi - Lao Cai highway. Route 2 is about 53 km long, connecting Nghia Lo town (Yen Bai) with the Hanoi - Lao Cai highway.
The project is invested by the Ministry of Transport, with a total investment of VND 6,018.1 billion. The implementation period is from 2021-2024.
In mid-January 2025, according to the records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters in Van Ban district, a series of workers, machines and equipment were working tirelessly.
A representative of Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Transport) - said: "Both the investor and the contractor are coordinating to resolve difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing the project. The construction progress is currently about 40% of the volume. It is expected that the entire route will be completed by June 30, 2025."
Project to renovate and upgrade Provincial Road 160
The project to renovate and upgrade Provincial Road 160, from National Highway 279 (in Xuan Hoa commune) to Xuan Thuong, Bao Yen district (Km41-Km63) has a total investment of 138 billion VND, invested by the Lao Cai Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.
According to research, the project will start construction at the end of 2023 and is expected to be completed and put into use in April 2025.

In mid-July 2024, during an inspection of key projects in the province, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Trong Hai requested the locality to focus on removing difficulties and obstacles in site clearance. Implement solutions to propagate and mobilize people to promptly hand over the site to the construction unit.
Project to upgrade and renovate Ban Xeo - Y Ty road (Bat Xat district)
The project to renovate and upgrade the Ban Xeo - Den Sang - Y Ty road has a total length of 33.58 km, starting at the Can Ty intersection and ending at the intersection with Trinh Tuong - Y Ty road.
The project has a total investment of 200 billion VND from the central and local budgets. The Bat Xat District Construction Investment Project Management Board is the investor representative. Construction will start in early 2022 and will be completed and put into use in 2025.
Currently, workers and machinery are being deployed urgently to construct and complete the road.
Mr. Vu Van Sinh - Director of Bat Xat District Construction Investment Project Management Board said: "In 2025, a series of traffic projects in the district will be required to be completed. Therefore, the unit is urging contractors to take advantage of favorable weather to mobilize human resources and machinery to work."
Investment project to build Ring Road 2
Through research, the investment project to build Ring Road 2 (section DT 153 to the People's Committees of Na Hoi, Na Kim and Ta Chai communes) is invested by the People's Committee of Bac Ha district, with a capital of more than 300 billion VND.
Construction began in 2019 and was expected to be completed in 1,000 days. However, as of January 13, 2025, due to site clearance issues, the road is still under construction.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Ha Duc Thanh - Director of the Bac Ha District Construction Investment Project Management Board - said that the Ring Road 2 project has been extended and the completion date has been postponed to May 2025.
